Project

Gamified Wiki-Game for Migrants

Brief Description

This project combines a simulation game (where users go through key stages of migration in a “playful” form), a social network, and a wiki-style encyclopedia, enriched by “live” case studies from real people. The goal is to help migrants quickly, clearly, and in a friendly atmosphere learn about the bureaucratic and everyday aspects of life in a new country.

According to Eurostat data, in 2021 over 2.9 million people obtained a residence permit in EU countries for the first time. Each of these numbers represents a personal story: from a student coming for education to a family seeking a better life. It highlights the ongoing nature of migration, meaning there is a continuous target audience for this project. Besides newcomers, the platform can also involve those who have already adapted, as well as volunteers and local community members willing to help. This creates a vibrant, multicultural environment where everyone can find their role — from looking up specific answers to mentoring newcomers or taking part in joint events.

Goals and Objectives

  1. Helping migrants: simplify the adaptation process by providing step-by-step guides and real-life stories.
  2. Gamification of learning: transform dry legal matters into a gameplay format — quests, levels, and rewards.
  3. Uniting communities: gather in one place the experience of people who have already gone through migration challenges.
  4. Easing the burden on government bodies: by offering quality instructions and prepared users, reduce “bureaucratic bottlenecks.”
  5. Commercial partnerships: collaborate with companies (banks, insurance providers, language schools, etc.) for mutual benefit and to develop integration projects.

Core Concept

Target Audience

  1. New migrants: people going abroad for study, work, or family reunification.
  2. Migrants already living in the country: wishing to share experiences or deal with additional bureaucratic aspects.
  3. Volunteers and enthusiasts: ready to help newcomers, broaden their social circle, and engage in international friendship projects.
  4. Government bodies and NGOs: interested in reducing workload and improving new residents’ level of awareness.
  5. Companies: willing to assist with integration (banks, insurance providers, language schools, etc.) while gaining recognition and new clients.

Key Features

  1. Simulation Game:

    • Storyline: the user “lands” in a fictional city (e.g., Berlin) and faces real-life problems (finding housing, getting official documents).
    • Quests: each quest includes tasks for gathering documents, filling in forms, interacting with NPCs (advisor characters).
    • Every step offers assistance with completing the quest, providing templates for necessary documents, recommendations, addresses, and timing tips.
    • “Integration” progress bar: the more quests are completed, the higher the “integration level.” A higher user rating means more people can reach out to them for advice.
  2. Wiki Encyclopedia:

    • User-generated content: any participant can create or edit an article.
    • Information verification: rating, reputation, and moderation system.
    • Official links: every article is backed by references to government websites and verified resources.
    • Structure: clearly defined categories (“housing,” “healthcare,” “work,” “studies,” etc.).
  3. Communities and Chats:

    • Built-in chat functionality or integration with a Telegram bot, allowing users to consult experts.
    • The ability to post questions and get answers from those who have already gone through these steps.
  4. AI Support (LLMs and other algorithms):

    • Personal chatbots: the user can get quick answers to their questions, with AI “looking up” relevant wiki articles and returning a concise summary.
    • Simplified moderation: AI monitors new articles and edits, helping moderators detect duplicates, spam, offensive or outdated content.
    • Smart search: semantic search that finds the necessary information, even with imprecise wording.
    • Automated translation: AI modules can translate articles into other languages (with additional manual review).

Development Stages

  1. Preliminary Stage (R&D)

    • Market research and competitor analysis (e.g., “Ankommen,” “Integreat”).
    • Defining requirements, target audience, MVP features.
    • Drafting specifications for game design and wiki architecture.
  2. Design Phase

    • Designing game mechanics, levels, quests.
    • Creating user flows, wireframes.
    • UI/UX design.
  3. MVP Development

    • Setting up core modules: user registration, main gameplay (quests, progress), wiki section.
    • Building a minimalistic version covering 1–2 key scenarios (e.g., obtaining a visa + finding housing).
    • Interfaces for adding/editing wiki articles.
  4. Testing and Iterations

    • Alpha testing on a small group of users (10–20 people).
    • Gathering feedback, fixing bugs.
    • Adding new quests and articles.
  5. Beta Release

    • Expanded features, integration with chat and/or an AI bot.
    • Public testing, active community engagement.
  6. Preparation for Launch

    • Polishing, bug-fixing.
    • Marketing campaign, establishing partnerships (NGOs, migration services, government agencies).
  7. Launch and Ongoing Support

    • Monitoring relevance, regularly updating articles.
    • Improving game content.
    • Possible business models (ads, sponsorships, donations).

Monetization Opportunities

  1. Advertising and Sponsorship:

    • Banks, insurance providers, language schools, transport services, etc., can place ads or become sponsors.
    • “Native” integration: articles on renting housing can include partner offers (e.g., property insurance).
  2. Premium Accounts:

    • Additional in-game features (more detailed analytics, personal consultations).
    • Priority support from AI bots or moderators.
  3. Affiliate Programs:

    • Providing coupons or discounts for educational courses, language schools, relocation services.
    • Revenue from partners when these services are purchased through the game.
  4. Corporate Licenses:

    • For large companies training their foreign employees: access to closed sections or customizable solutions for their HR processes.
  5. Donations:

    • Users who truly benefit from the project can support it by making voluntary contributions.

Growth and Scalability

  1. Expansion to Other Countries:

    • After a successful pilot in Germany, adapt the game for France, Italy, Spain, etc.
    • Translate the interface, revise “bureaucratic quests” to match local specifics.
  2. Support for Multiple Languages:

    • Built-in AI translation modules, reviewed by native speakers.
    • A unified database adapted to each user (automatic content switching).
  3. Collaboration with Government Bodies:

    • Involving ministries and local authorities: they can update official data and promote the project as part of eGovernment initiatives.
    • Receiving grants from European programs that support migrant integration.
  4. Enhancing Game Mechanics:

    • Social features: creating “guilds” or “teams” that jointly tackle major bureaucratic challenges.
    • Competitions for the best guide or most helpful article, with partner-sponsored prizes.
  5. Deepening AI Functionality:

    • Personalized recommendations: AI analyzes a migrant’s profile and suggests the most relevant quests.
    • Advanced moderation features: detecting misinformation, insults, spam.

Potential Benefits (Profit)

  1. Social Impact:

    • Improving migrants’ awareness, aiding their adaptation, saving them time and stress.
    • Successful integration of migrants is key to reducing social tension and increasing economic return. Projects that help people adapt more quickly are highly valued.
  2. Reduced Workload on Government Agencies:

    • Prepared users come with the right set of documents in hand.
    • Government bodies can report on successful integration and digitalization — part of their KPIs and public image.
  3. Commercial Potential:

    • Advertising partners (banks, insurance companies, language schools) can sponsor the project.
    • Affiliate programs, paid features, etc.
  4. Geographical Expansion:

    • After a successful pilot in one country, the model can be adapted to others.
  5. Community Growth:

    • With active user involvement in creating content, the project becomes self-sustaining and gains a permanent audience.
    • Over time, it can incorporate not only migration-related topics but also “life hacks” for everyday living (how to find a doctor, childcare, navigate taxes, etc.).
  6. Brand Enhancement:

    • Companies joining the platform can gain recognition and loyalty among migrants.
    • Businesses that position themselves as “migrant-friendly” build a positive reputation in this demographic and increase the chances people will opt for their services.
  7. Long-Term Relevance:

    • Even though migration may end for one individual, overall migration flows are continuous, and new participants replace the old ones. This ensures a steady interest in the project.
    • Some migrants eventually change status (e.g., from a student visa to a work visa, then to permanent residency, and finally citizenship). Each step is a new phase requiring up-to-date info.
    • Many migrants keep handling bureaucratic matters even after the initial move (document renewals, status changes, moving to a different city).
  8. New Social Connections and Volunteerism:

    • Players who have completed their “immigration journey” can remain in the community, help newcomers, and make new friends.
    • This creates a sustainable ecosystem and gives the project longevity.
